Bike Park Hours
Monday to Friday: 11:00am - Dark
Saturday to Sunday: 10:00am - Dark

BIKELAUNCH - JUNE 7th 2008
What started as a one day event has turned into a thrilling two-day event. Though BIKELAUNCH is technically only being held on Saturday June 7th, June 6th has to be mentioned.

Friday June 6th Chicopee will be home to the premiere of two mountain bike films: Kranked 7: "The Cackle Factor" and The Collective's "Seasons" will both be premiering that night. VIP night for those who have bought memberships, attended bike park meetings or helped on volounteer day will also be that night, where those VIPS can go and rip up the new park before the premieres begin. This night is sponsored by our good friends at King Street Cycle! The event will be free to Bike Park members, and $10 for everyone who is not a bike park member (but seriously, you should be a member). Proceeds will partially go to IMBA, everyone's favorite association.

Saturday June 7th is the big day! BikeLaunch officially starts at 10:00am. Noon will see the "Battle of the KW bike shops", BBQ and lots of local shops selling their stuff. 2:00 will feature the kids AMPED race which will utilize the ponds and pines trail systems. Park riding will go on all day until... 2:45 for some general maintenence when some SICK (but they're secret) door prizes will be given out. Door prizes will only be avaliable to those people who are riding.

BIKELAUNCH is free if you just want to hang out, but $10 to ride the park or heck, if you want to buy a membership then you can do that too!

If you ride Bikes in Southern Ontario then you have no excuse NOT to come out. If you're flying in then I guess you have an excuse but you should still be here.

WATCH OUR COUNTDOWN CLOCK! AS I POST IT IS AT: 8 days 18 hours and 55 minutes until Chicopee's BikeLaunch!

VOLOUNTEER DAY A HUGE SUCCESS
Chicopee and KWBiking.com would like to thank absolutly everyone who came out to volounteer on Sunday, May 25. We could not be more thrilled with the turn out as well as the vibe given off by every rider.

A tonne of work got done, and everyone was stoked which was exactly what we wanted to see.

Sucks that the youngster went down, but we're glad he'll be okay!

If you missed out on the volounteer day then you only have to wait two more weeks until June 7th when the park is re-opened but this time for good! Stay tuned for BikeLaunch updates!

VOLOUNTEER DAY
The final 3D concept drawings have been (finally) released for the Chicopee Bike Park. See them HERE.

Chicopee's Volounteer day has officially been announced for Sunday May 25, 2008. If you wish to come out and help, please either sign up in our forums or e-mail Shawn Turner. (sturner@skichicopee.com)

The volounteer day is a great way to show that you care about the park, and you get to ride the park for free. How cool is that? Also don't forget that you're name will be put on the VIP list. Who knows what that means. haha!

HUGE UPDATE
Thanks to Claude and the rest of TDC Construction, the Chicopee Bike Park has come leaps and bounds further then anyone had expected --already.

Check out our new photo journal for all the latest pictures.

All (or at least most) of the dirt hauling is complete, and packed. So where from here?

Chicopee has released a timeline for the bike park, and it appears as follows:

May 9th - Staking the jumps
May 10th - Soil Moved and park roughed in.
May 12-16th - Fencing and other safety work
May 13 - Final big machine work, could carry into May 14th.
May 19-22nd - Finishing grade work will take place

WEEKEND OF MAY 24/25 - CHICOPEE HOLDS VOLOUNTEER DAY - volunteers can come out and help shape the park, pack things in and prepare things for opening.

Important Message from Chicopee: although the features that are placed on the hill are riding, we do ask that you refrain from riding on (or modifying) the park until the park has been opened, for safety reasons. By all means though, go and look!

Thanks,
Chicopee

DIRT COULD MOVE AS EARLY AS NEXT WEEK
Another meeting in the books and it looks like the park is going to be just awesome. Mark from IMBA listened to what riders have to say and now Chicopee is expected to be pumping out seven (7) dirt jump lines, as well as a flow track and two pump tracks.

Further developments have revealed that the advanced riders are going to get more than they were originally told. From table-tops all around, the advanced riders will now be given two line of jumps called semi-gaps. These jumps have the feeling of gap jumping, but less consequence when things go wrong.

Intermediates have a total of three lines to choose from. These jumps range in height from 2-4 feet, all are tables.

The beginners will have two lines to choose from: the first being a roller line, to get the feel of what the "pumping" motion is like, and beside them will be a series of 1 foot high rollers that will actually be shaped more like tables.

Pump tracks. The plans are to have two pump-tracks: a smaller oval one for learning, and a larger almost triangular-shaped one for when you really start to get the hang of pump tracks.

The flow track is hard to explain. It will be gravity fed, and will swing back and forth down the top of the park featuring tables, step-ups, step-downs and other similar features found on a pump track. The trail has been said to somewhat resemble Whistler's A-Line.

We will have drawings and more updates for you guys very soon!

PARK INFORMATION RELEASED
Beginner line, intermediate, Advanced... we'll have it all covered for you guys.

As a special bit of "insider information"... I wanted to let you KW Biking enthusiasts know that we will be running a sneak peak pricing offer on Thursday night as well.

Where the regular membership will be $179; we will be offering our park pass at a rate of $109 to anyone who comes out on Thursday evening.
For those who register in the next week, we will honor a $129 rate. Following that our prices will return to the posted rate of $179.

For those of you who plan on riding a fair bit this summer, this is a wicked opportunity to grab an even better price on your pass for this season.
Be sure to pass the word on to those who may not see these postings. This sneak peak pricing will be available for one night only.

See you here!

PARK RATES
This summer you will be looking at a Park Pass for $175 which is a seasons pass with no limits on how many visits you may make. There will be some benefits associated with this pass, such as discounts etc.
In addition to the seasons pass, you will be able to purchase a day pass. This will run $10 and will be single use - similar to a lift ticket in the winter.
The question about whether or not you will need to pay extra for the trails is a good one... A park pass will cover the park and ALL trails. The existing $5 pass will only serve the XC bike trails.

These amounts have been set in order to help pay for the developments we have planned for this summer. As time passes you will see this park evolve into even bigger and better things.

Hope to see everyone out on Thursday... we will check out the site, fill you in on the proposed features, and a few other interesting details.

CHICOPEE BIKE PARK ANNOUNCED
Chicopee is very proud to announce that after months of planning we will be moving ahead to open a multi-use bike park to add to our roster of summer activities. Already boasting nearly 10kms of single and double track mountain bike trails, the addition of the bike park to the facility will enhance the attractiveness of Chicopee as a destination for mountain bikers throughout all of Southwestern Ontario and beyond.

In association with IMBA, the International Mountain Bike Association, upon their relocation of their Canadian Headquarters to Kitchener, Trail Specialist Mark Schmidt will assist in the planning, layout and construction of the park. The park will feature up to five (5) dirt jump lines ranging from beginner to intermediate/advanced. In addition, the inclusion of a pump track will be built utilizing a series of rollers, small jumps and berms to allow continuous riding with minimal pedaling, will round out the park.

The focus of the new park will be on instruction, rider progression and safety which will be achieved by employing certified instructors, structured lesson programs and trained first aid staff on hand to supervise and maintain the features at all times during regular operating hours of the park this spring, summer and fall.

The park will officially open with BikeLaunch! on June 7th at Chicopee, running from 10am-4pm, showcasing all bike related facets of Chicopee's summer operations. This event will feature a garage sale style bike swap, local retailers, manufacturers and demo bikes as well as live music, giveaways and park membership sales and promotions, with all monies raised on this day to be reinvested back into the park facilities.  Additionally, Chicopee will host its first ever mountain bike race for riders under the age of 15 on some of the already existing trails throughout the grounds, the Amped Jr.

Chicopee will be hosting an open info session on Thursday, May 1st for all interested parties to view the construction site, ask questions and gather information on the details of the park in anticipation of the opening in early June. This session will begin at 6pm in the Silvertip Lounge at Chicopee.
